6 (4) oz Biscuit
1 lb (10 oz) flaked oats
8 oz (5) crystal 40
6 oz (4) Munich
6 oz (4) Victory
4 oz carapils
all homegrown hops
0.5 oz Zeus (Columbus) (60 min)
0.5 oz Zeus (Columbus) (10 min)
0.5 tsp gypsum (10 min)
0.25 tsp chloride
1 oz Zeus (0 min) after cool to 180 deg.
2 oz Cascade (0 min)
Primary fermentation in carboy for 1 week
Secondary fermentation in bucket due to size of cone hops
1 oz Cascade (dryhop 6 days)
0.3 oz Centennial (dryhop 6 days)
1 oz Zeus (dryhop 6 days)
Safale 04 yeast
Mash at 155 if doing a long mash (split brewing day)
Ferment at lowest temp possible
Mash was about 2.5 hrs, but mash temp was rather high at 155-158 deg.
Mash got stuck so had to dump it to a bowl and then back into mash tun to clear blockage.
Fermentation temp is about 69 deg. higher than I like. Fermentation started quick
Racked into secondary (plastic bucket) after 1 week. Dryhopped in nylon bag with marbles for weight. Weight is not enough to submerge entire bags. Only had one oz of cascade. (should have harvested more since the year old hops smelled grassy) Beer tastes a bit thin, might be due to it being watered down by about a half gallon.
